As posted in the original league timeline there was a plan to expand the league to 30 teams prior to the 2019 season. That has not changed. I am posting this thread well ahead of time in order to nail down specific ways we would be bringing two more teams into the fold. This way you will be able to plan for this and cannot say the commish did you wrong.

1. Price to own an expansion team will be the same as any other team. The team may be rough at first but the fun that these new owners will have building their expansion team will be well worth the price of admission. Belee Dat!

2. Available teams - There will be two openings available. One in the AFC and one in the NFC.

The AFC Owner may choose either:
Baltimore Ravens - Goes to the AFC Central
New York Jets - Goes to the AFC East which moves Indianapolis to the Central

The NFC Owner may choose either:
San Francisco 49ers - Goes to the NFC West
Detroit Lions - Goes to the NFC Central which moves Jacksonville to the West

3. Expansion Draft

Existing teams will have to expose players to the expansion draft.

Protection Limits: Teams will be capped on how many players can be protected per position as follows...
QB (2), RB (4), WR (5), TE (2), DE (3), DT (2), LB (5), CB (3), S (3), K (1) = 30 players

Teams will have to expose 1/3 of their roster to the expansion draft. (If you have 45 players, then 15 will be left unprotected... If you have 24 players, then 8 will be left unprotected etc)

If you lose a player in the expansion draft, then you will have 24 hours to pull back 50% of the remaining unprotected players if you so choose. (Ex: You have 45 players and leave 15 unprotected. You lose a player in the draft leaving you with 14 unprotected. You would then be able to pull back any 7 unprotected player from the draft within 24 hours of that pick)

The maximum number of players you can lose in the expansion draft is 2.

Any team with zero players selected within the Top 48 picks of the expansion draft will surrender their 2nd worst draft pick as penalty.

4. Rookie Draft

If Team A picked first in the Expansion Draft, then Team B will pick first in the rookie draft...
1st Round - Expansion teams will receive the 6th & 7th overall picks
2nd thru 6th Rounds - Expansion teams will have the first picks in each round and will alternate who picks first every round.

(At this point the expansion teams could have drafted between 14-28 players each in the expansion draft and 6 players in the rookie draft)

5. Free Agency

As a final way to assist these teams in their startup, each team will receive a 10% discount in free agency. (If you sign someone for $30M, then they will only go on your cap at $27M)

Additionally if a team signs a free agent who plays for their real life NFL counterpart, then they will save a whopping 20% discount. (EX: Someone chooses to be San Francisco and signs Carlos Hyde in FA. If he is still with SF in real life, then the 20% discount applies)

Discounts would cease to be applied on any bids won after Sept 1, 2019 unless you have a pre-existing bid on the player prior to that date.
Is there anything here that you guys find completely objectionable?
Can I move my team to detroit... we find Cali too crowded. (and I'm already Detroit in NFLC)

Sounds fair to the Pack. The more teams the merrier.
Dibs on SF. I will sell or GM out SEA after we win in 2018. Would love the challenge.
You got it tucci.

Sorry Scally, additional realignment is not on the menu.

Only one left, I would consider giving up GM rights to the Raiders next season to take on the second Ownership spot.  Lets see who else is interested first.

The expansion stuff wouldn't happen until after the 2018 season was over. I admit this is super early but I don't want anyone to say that I didn't give them enough time to plan. Shy
So if we lose a player in the expansion draft, would any of their contract stay on our salary or would we be 100% free of their contract?
You would be free of the salary if they got selected. You would lose any corresponding cap adjustments with it. For instance if Cam Newton was selected, then the expansion team would inherit his salary plus the $3m cash exchange on his salary
